Redmi Note 9 (Global) vs Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: What’s Different in Price in India, Specs and Features

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi recently launched the Redmi Note 9 smartphone in the global market. One day or the other, the Redmi Note 9 is likely going to make its way to the Indian markets as well. The ongoing leaks have also suggested the same. Not just leaks, the Redmi Note 9 has recently been spotted on the Indian BIS certification authority website too, which has suggested that the Indian launch of the Redmi Note 9 is imminent. This has led us to answer a question – is the Redmi Note 9 a significant upgrade over its predecessors? Today, we are here to answer just that, as we are going to compare the recently launched Redmi Note 9 smartphone with the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 7S smartphones and find out the differences between all three smartphones. So, without waiting any further, let’s get started.

Redmi Note 9 (Global) vs Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: Difference in Price
Starting with the Redmi Note 9 smartphone, the company has launched it in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is priced at $199 or around Rs 14,940 and one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which is priced at $269 or around Rs 20,185. While we are not entirely sure as to what the Indian pricing of the device will be, we can safely expect that it will be lower than the global pricing, considering the fact that the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max smartphones, which offer way better specifications and features, are priced lower than the global pricing of the Redmi Note 9 in India.

Moving on to the Redmi Note 8, the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant of the device is priced at Rs 10,999, while the 6GB RAM and 128GB variant will cost you Rs 13,999. The Redmi Note 7S, on the other hand, will cost you Rs 8,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and Rs 9,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 7S comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a similar waterdrop notch arrangement for the selfie snapper.

Redmi Note 9 vs Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: Processor and Software
When it comes to software, the Redmi Note 9 drives power from a hexa-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor. The Redmi Note 8, on the other hand, comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor. Lastly, the Redmi Note 7S is powered by a dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. As far as processing power is concerned, all three smartphones offer decent processors at their respective price points, but the Redmi Note 9 takes the lead with its industry-first Helio G85 chipset.

Coming to the software, all three smartphones run on MIUI skin, but the Redmi Note 9 is the only device that ships with Android 10 OS out of the box. If rumours are to be believed, the Redmi Note 9 is also slated to receive the newly announced MIUI 12 sooner than the other two smartphones that we are comparing today, making it the winner in this round.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 7S sports a dual rear camera setup, which includes a 48MP primary lens and a 5MP secondary shooter. At the front, the Redmi Note 7S also features a 13MP unit.

When it comes to cameras, the Redmi Note 9 does not come with a world-changing improvement if we compare it with its predecessor, so we cannot really give it to the device. Both the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 9 offer decent cameras, at least on paper.

Redmi Note 9 vs Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: Battery Features
As far as the batteries of the devices that we are comparing are concerned, the Redmi Note 9 sports a massive 5,020mAh battery, which has scope for up to 18W of fast charging over a USB Type-C port. Redmi Note 9 vs Redmi Note 8 vs Redmi Note 7S: Final Verdict

All three smartphones that we compared today offer absolute value-for-money specifications and features, but the Redmi Note 9 comes out to be the clear winner when it comes to the display. It has the essentials of a modern-day smartphone in terms of a punch-hole display. Plus, the device has a larger battery as well. If price is your primary concern, however, the Redmi Note 7S could be the choice of a smartphone for you, as it is the cheapest of the lot.
